The Wedding Dress
What to do with it after the Wedding
by: Sarah Arnette

The wedding is over. The cake has been cut, the bouquet has been thrown and the first dance has ended. The hall has been cleaned up and the honeymoon has ended. This leaves you with some serious business to attend to in order to start your new life together. Once the thank you letters are sent out and legal business is complete most brides are left with a dirty wedding dress and no where to store it. What is a bride to do with the dress that kicked off her new life?

Most brides will want to keep their dress for a while. Some have visions of their daughter walking down the isle in their dress. Some have hopes of a vows renewal in that same dress. No matter what the dreams of the bride are the dress has to be cleaned and stored in order for those dreams to come to fruit. No matter how careful the bride was, the dress will be dirty and it will need to be cleaned and preserved in order for anything to be done with it later.

There are many wedding dress cleaning services offered. They are not cheap, but they do an excellent job at cleaning the dress and making it look like new. There is no guarantee that the dress will stain free though. There are some things, such as the different sauces, that may not come out despite the efforts of the cleaning agency. Provided there are no major stains, the dress should look great when returning from the cleaners. Most of these cleaners offer the preservation services as well. This service helps to prevent the material from decaying and helps the dress to look like new longer. This includes a dress box that protects the dress.

Most wedding dresses end up in the attic for years. For those people who have plenty of storage room, this is not a problem. They can store the wedding dress in its box until they are able to reuse the dress. For those who do not have the room, they need to find something else to do with the dress. This can include sacrificing something else to make the room or finding a new home for the dress. Even those with room to store the dress may find that they want to rid themselves of a dress that they can no longer fit and their daughter may not want to wear at her own wedding.

There are many different sites that sell wedding dresses. There are also a number of donation places that can take the wedding dress. These dresses are worn by brides who simply lack the funds to purchase a new dress. This can help to make another bride’s wedding as beautiful and magical as your own wedding was. This also allows the bride to take the wedding dress as a tax write off since it is a charitable donation at that point.

While it is always the dream of a bride that her child will walk down the isle in her wedding dress, it is important to remember that this tradition is quickly fading away. Not only may your daughter or future daughter in law be a different size that you, but her style may differ as well. Finding something more productive to do with the dress can make someone else’s wedding and it may also help your wallet. This does not mean that anything has to be done to the dress right away. The dress can be kept for as long as a bride feels she wants to keep the dress. The dress will not fade in beauty as the years pass. It can be a lot of fun holding on to the dress and reliving that monumental day. When a bride no longer feels she needs or wants the dress, there are options as to what can be done with that dress.
